The following information comes from Fenestration Canada:
Fenestration Canada has been receiving phone calls and e-mails daily about NAFS requirements in building codes in various provinces being delayed. These rumors are just that rumors. After considerable review across the country as of January 1, 2014 this is the status:
BC – NAFS-08 and CSA A440S1-09 are required for all installations
SK – NAFS-08 and CSA A440S1-09 are required for all installations
MB – NAFS-08 and CSA A440S1-09 are required for all installations
NS – NAFS-08 and CSA A440S1-09 are required for all installations
YT – NAFS-08 and CSA A440S1-09 are required for all installations
NT – NAFS-08 and CSA A440S1-09 are required for all installations
City of Moncton, NB – NAFS-08 and CSA A440S1-09 are required for all installations
ON – NAFS-08 and CSA A440S1-09 are required for all installations with building permits issued after January 1, 2014. If the building permit was issued before January 1, 2014 the older standards apply, provided ground is broken on the job within 3 to 6 month of the date of issue of the permit, this time frame will be defined by the local building officials.
NU does not have a building code act in place, but any federally funded projects will have to meet the National Building Code of Canada 2010, and NAFS-08 and CSA A440S1-09 requirements.
AB, QC, NB, PE, NF are all working with older codes and standards.
